Clipping Definition - What is Clipping?

This is a form of wave distortion that creates bad sounds and bad audio recordings. It also leads to an amplifier going above and beyond its power level and can damage the equipment as well as the quality of the recording. But it also can be the type of sound that is required or requested by a musician or recording. For example the electric rock guitar player is going to want to produce this since it leads to that signature hard rock/heavy metal sound that is needed for this type of music. But most of the time it is not wanted.
