082 Dr. Justin Kolnick: Understanding Lasers in Endodontics, Part 1

In part 1 of this 2 part episode, Dr. Justin Kolnick discusses how he became involved in using lasers in endodontics, the categories of lasers, how they work, and how they are utilized clinically. Also discussed are the specific advantages of lasers for activating endodontic irrigation relative to the alternatives. Dr. Kolnick received his dental degree, cum laude, from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, where he was the first dental school graduate to be awarded the University Scholarship for Overseas Postgraduate Study.  Dr. Kolnick received his postdoctoral endodontic training from Columbia University in the City of New York.For the past 38 years, Dr. Kolnick has been in private practice limited to endodontics in Westchester County, NY. His practice, Advanced Endodontics of Westchester, includes two partners and two associate and is dedicated to fostering excellence in endodontics through education and the incorporation of the latest technology.  Throughout his career, Dr. Kolnick has been a trailblazer in his field and has been instrumental in promoting laser-assisted endodontics worldwide.Dr. Kolnick has been committed to endodontic education, first as an Associate Clinical Professor in Endodontics at Columbia University and then as an Attending at Westchester Medical Center and an Associate Clinical Professor in Endodontics at New York Medical College.  Although he no longer holds these positions, he continues to lecture extensively on a local, national and international level and has published several articles on endodontics.  Currently, Dr. Kolnick is a Clinical Mentor for Biolase, Inc. and is responsible for conducting Advanced Laser Training Courses for endodontists worldwide.The Dental Clinical Companion Podcast (DCCP) is provided for general informational purposes only.
