053 Dr. Barry Raphael: Wake-up Call: Dentistry Addresses the Airway

In a detailed and informative Podcast interview, Dr. Barry Raphael discusses the ADA's 2017 statement on dentistry's role in sleep-related breathing disorders, his involvement in promoting these concepts, the difference between integrative and conventional orthodontics, the Raphael Center for Integrative Education, and achieving optimal esthetics, occlusion and breathing and sleep. Dr. Barry Raphael has been in the private practice of orthodontics since 1983, carrying on a family tradition since 1950.  Over that time, his interest in Early Treatment has led to the incorporation of techniques designed to prevent malocclusion and Airway-Centered Dysfunctions like sleep disordered breathing and oral habits that effect facial growth.  Dr. Raphael teaches these techniques on post-graduate level, nationally, internationally and at the Raphael Center for Integrative Education whose mission is to teach patients, parents, and professionals about ACDs and treatment alternatives. He ran the first graduate program in Myofunctional Orthodontics at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, Pediatric Dental Residency from 2011-2019. He is a past-president of the New Jersey Association of Orthodontists and is actively involved with the American Dental Association’s task force on Children’s Airway Health. The Dental Clinical Companion Podcast (DCCP) is provided for general informational purposes only.
